Beach Swimming
Our beach is a coral sand beach with two large tides per day and as such the reef will be exposed twice each day. It is possible to take a reef walk at low tide to see the various types of marine life. Check with our Activities Board to see if there is a guided tour. At high tide there is a wonderful swimming spot mid way down our beach to the right, just in front of the old rubber tree. We advise that reef shoes should be worn if you are not familiar with the swimming spots. Swimming all day from the jetty is also popular, as the channel is very deep, however please watch out for the sea urchins on the rocks along the channel edges. Coral and tropical fish can be viewed along the reef at the end of the Foot Island. The ‘murky’ water that sometimes appears is simply coral and sand dust and this may hamper visibility at times.

Environmental Considerations
In a small island nation such as Fiji, water is a precious commodity, even more so when it is also used to provide hydro-electric power. In our efforts to conserve both water and energy please help us through the following:
Turn off all lights, fans & air –conditioning units when you are not in your bure / villa.
If you are happy to use your towels for more than one day, please leave them on the towel rail. Towels left on the floor will automatically be washed.
Fax Services
Facsimile services are offered at Reception during office hours – from 8.00am to 5.00pm daily. Fees will apply.
Fiji Time
First Landing is the perfect place to step back in time; to a time of peace, reflection and relaxation. Take this time to unwind and to spoil yourself and each other. It just takes two words – ‘Fiji Time’ – it’s not an excuse at all, Fiji Time is very real!
Fijian Cultural Courtesy
The warm and welcoming character of the people of Fiji, it is one of the best reasons to visit. But Fijians are more traditional and more modest than some of our South Pacific neighbours. As a courtesy to us, here are basic dress code and etiquette guidelines:
Resort Attire
While at your resort, you can wear whatever you’d wear on a tropical beach vacation. But do please refrain from topless or nude sunbathing on the resort’s beaches or at the pool, as it is considered offensive. If you are in a private villa at First Landing or an island resort with secluded bures with private pools and beaches, doff your swimwear with discretion.
Sightseeing Attire
When visiting a local village, women should avoid wearing camisoles, tank tops or halter tops that bare their shoulders. Also, both men and women should not wear short shorts (or miniskirts for women). The best advice is to carry a sulu (a Fijian sarong) or two to cover bare shoulders or legs.
Do’s and Don’ts
• Do not wear hats when visiting a Fijian village and do not touch anyone’s head (it is considered a sign of disrespect).
• Do take off your shoes before entering a bure or house.
• If you are invited to a village, do stay with the host who invited you. Don’t wander off if invited by another member of the village as this is considered disrespectful to your host.
• Do speak softly. Fijians interpret raised voices as expressing anger. Fijians do not like confrontation or aggressive language or behaviour – please show respect if you find a situation frustrating or not to your expectation.
• Fijians are known to be exceptionally welcoming and friendly, but if someone turns away when you are photographing them, do respect their wish not to be photographed. Aside from ceremonies and performances, if you want to take a photo of someone, it is considered polite to ask their permission first.
• If offered a bowl of kava to sip during a yaqona ceremony, do try it. It is considered rude not to.

In case of fire contact Reception in person or by dialling “0”, then make your way quickly and calmly to the designated fire point which is indicated on the plan in your room.

Insects & Animals
Fiji has a tropical climate which is the perfect environment for a variety of insects. The resort sprays (one that is not harmful to people) every two days against mosquitoes, something that has proven to be successful. However, there are sandflies at certain times of the year. We suggest using a repellent from 4.00pm to deter these. At certain times of the year ants can be unavoidable. Please keep any food in sealed containers or in the refrigerator. The resort also has an effective pest control management plan in place.
There are no harmful bugs or spiders in Fiji.
Please note that Geckos (wall and ceiling lizards) are completely harmless and feed off irritating insects. Cane toads are evident after heavy rains and are also harmless, but we don’t suggest you touch them. You will see Mongooses infrequently around the resort and they are known to occasionally play on the roof – please don’t be alarmed!
There is a native bird chart available in reception.
The Fijian spider (much like a Huntsman) is large but totally harmless.
Animal welfare is important to us here at the resort and thus we ask guests to please not feed any birds or animals that you may occasionally find wandering in the resort.
